artist statement
Over the course of my art career, my work has become less realistic and more abstract. Being loose and expressive while creating is important for me to make the best product. Each piece I make is composed differently whether it’s with drawing materials, various kinds of paint, fabric, a printmaking technique, or even unconventional materials. Although done with different approaches, the process stays the same. I usually do not start with an end product in mind, instead creating intuitively. This results in my pieces being expressionistic.
Some are distortions of reality which I do by using unrealistic colors, creating textures that aren’t actually there, and inventing different backgrounds. Another example can be an interesting, intricate pattern. I use natural, curvy shapes and use interesting colors that are bright and pleasing to the eye. My pieces explore femininity through shape, color, and texture. Mostly women would be able to connect to my art and find it pleasing to look at.
I consider most of my work to be self-portraits, even if they don’t directly resemble myself. Since I work intuitively, I’m able to fully express myself. I feel as if my art is a representation of my personality, making most of it self portraits.
