Ben Zigo
artist statement
My work is derived around faith and spirituality as a means for the well-being of an individual. Most of the content within my work is based on my process of becoming a professional artist and, my relationship with God as a means of peace in the process. With that in mind my work is depicted in a grotesque manner to express dreams or passions will not be without difficulty. Concluding that within my work deals with a lot of dramatic subject matter with deeply thought out meaning.
I use symbolism to charge my subject matter, this allows me to present and explore their conceptual implications. These ideas can be portrayed in realism, surrealism, and or semi-abstraction to convey the dramatization of life and its trials. And its deeper meanings.
I explore the idea of identity over societal norms and expectations. In my work, I express that the true nature of being one’s self is found in exploration and persistence of one’s greatest abilities and qualities. I state that these are strengthen in the trials one faces in his or hers journey to success. You can find hints or letting yourself be an eternal student in order to achieve great feats.
