artist statement
In June of 2020, Meghan did genetic testing through Ancestry DNA and that opened up a world of questions and ideas. It created a fascination within her about where she comes from, the people she might have known, and the cultures that have never been experienced. Meghan’s art has been directly influenced by this. Through visual representation of cultural traditions and iconography, Meghan has sought to understand the places and traditions of where her ancestors have lived before her and where her genetics indicate she has relations. Meghan hopes to better understand her past and ancestors, their lives, traditions and customs and how that may influence her in the here and now through her artwork.
