artist statement
This body of work is a collection of lithograph prints on handmade paper, which has the effect of a manuscript. During my time at UMSL, I noticed how much paper the university went through and I decided to do something about the waste. I gave the paper shreds new life by grinding them down and repressing them as sheets of paper, which I infused color, seeds, and herbs into and then print collage based images on top of. My imagery is a collection of recovered photographs from trashed or torn books that I find and piece back together to create a brand new image. After I print the image, I then add metallic elements to the prints to manifest the illuminated manuscripts of the medieval age.
