artist statement
My work surrounds the idea of self. I create my art for myself, not for an audience, so my work revolves around my thoughts, feelings, and interests. I work with elements that deal with the psychological complexities associated with history, identity, and place. For the last few years, I have been exploring my curiosity in the concept of buildings, partially homes, and how they can relate symbolically to the self. I am currently working on a painting that explores some thoughts and emotions I have experienced that I have represented through a symbolic relationship between a dollhouse and a figure, A figure and the void of a home, and a portrait growing from an abandoned building.

When it comes to my process of creating my works, I never force it. I clear my mind and let my mind wander and daydream of visual aspects that seem to come together and form an image. I always imagine the subject matter before I know the context, as that comes to me as work. In my work, the creative choices I make reveal the connections to my thoughts of the piece's true meaning as if subconsciously.

I work in an intuitive method of creating and organizing imagery that can function both representationally and symbolically. Although I know the meaning behind my paintings as they come from my own emotions and experiences, I like my work to speak to others' experiences and hold a universal meaning unique to everyone. This is important because it allows me to connect with people without saying things that are sometimes too hard to say aloud. The meaning behind my current painting is still coming to me, but I know that this is a representation of self-discovery, strength, growth, and love.
